Valley Ranch Treasures: 1977 Cowboys Figurines

1977 Cowboys Figurines

As we start packing-up for the team’s move to its new headquarters,, we’re finding fun items that will ultimately end up in the Cowboys Archives or the new digs at The Star in Frisco..

This row of figurines representing the stars of the 1977 Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys sits proudly on a shelf in the office of Joe Trahan, Cowboys media relations coordinator.

Each figurine is about 5 inches in height. From left to right, the figurines are:

* #89 tight end Billy Joe Dupree

* #33 running back Tony Dorsett

* #88 wide receiver Drew Pearson

* #12 quarterback Roger Staubach

*head coach Tom Landry

* #41 safety Charlie Waters

* #79 defensive end Harvey Martin (co-MVP of Super Bowl XII)

* #43 safety Cliff Harris

* #20 defensive back Mel Renfro

* #54 defensive tackle Randy White (co-MVP of Super Bowl XII).

Within that group are five members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Dorsett, Staubach, Landry, Renfro and White) and seven members of the Cowboys Ring of Honor (Dorsett, Pearon, Staubach, Landry, Harris, Renfro and White).

Okay, now for a confession. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to ‘liberate’ this collectible from Joe’s office. My three all-time favorite Cowboys are here (Pearson, Waters & Harris), and it’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen at Valley Ranch.

Do you think Joe would notice if somehow, some inexplicable way, this collectible mysteriously disappeared during the move from Valley Ranch to our new offices at The Star in Frisco? Hmmm….sure would look good on the shelf in my den!!! Hopefully Joe is not reading this.

    Will Joe be going on vacation any time soon? ha! What a cool item to have- never seen anything like it!

  2. That is so cool!! Those guys are my favorites too – especially #12 and the “man in the funny hat”. Those guys are class acts. I thought you were going to have a contest to name them all. Keep the ’70s artifacts coming.

  3. Go for it, Kristi. We won’t tell. Just blame the moving company. In fact, if you give me the day/time of the move, I just might try to do a “drive/grab it/go”.
